Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Ross School will show off the artistic work of their seventh graders at the Ross Gallery, entitled ‘Narratives: Real and imagined: Eight East End Artists’.

The Students will be putting on a reception at the School’s gallery on the 2nd May. The students have carried out all of the organisation for the show and it is a tribute to those involved that the standard of work and display is set to be so high.

Ross School, founded by Courtney Sale Ross, has a tradition of great artistic displays which spans the last fourteen years. This year, the focus is on the art of the Maya, and the myths seen Hellenistic work, and the fables seen in Roman painting and other artwork. The students also produced six word narratives during their time of study in class.

It is testament to the forward thinking of Courtney Sale Ross that the school is producing things like this year in year out. It shows a great desire to further the education of the children beyond the normal level, and it also encourages a good deal of business like acumen on behalf of the pupils.

With educational institutes like this, the future of this country is in good hands.

Discovering Adult Education

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Most people follow a fairly rigid path throughout their lives. Most of my friends went to school, went to college, some of them went on to study for their degrees and then they go out and get a job. Fifty years later and it is as if they have all done the same thing. I think though that the world is changing and people don’t have to stick to this blueprint for life. I am the perfect example. Like most of my friends I got good grades at school, and again like most of my friends I went to college and specialised in a few subjects that I performed best in. This is where my path deviated from most peoples’ though. During my College courses I became disillusioned with my work and I started to question just why I was doing what I was doing. I realised that my College course was not what I wanted to do, and the only thing that made me study was the thought that it was what I ought to be doing. I wanted to travel, and to see the world, while I had a chance.

After a lot of soul searching I decided to drop out of my courses and save up for a flight to the other side of the world. I decided that I had enough savvy and knowledge to be able to work my way round the world for a year or two and I planned to come back and enrol in a degree course when I returned.

I was twenty five when I started my degree course and I was lucky enough to come across a company called Kaplan which allowed me to study in a flexible manner from home. Five years down the line and I am a fully qualified teacher and I can say to myself that I gave myself the opportunity to see the world, and I got back on track with my life.

Essays overdue? No need to panic!

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Well I’ve had the most amazing winter of my life – snowboarding all over the French Alps, me, and three of my mates with nothing but some cash a pair of goggles and a plank under our feet! We spent three weeks all over the place and it’s been unbelievable – but when we got home I came back down to earth with a bang.

With College only two weeks away I knew there was no way on earth I would be able to get all of the work done that was due in in January. I had papers to do for Physics, French and a three thousand word essay on the complete works of Shakespeare! I hadn’t even read any of Shakespeare’s plays yet!

My last term had been pretty hard going, and I’d already missed enough deadlines to know that anymore could spell the end of my course. I simply couldn’t afford not to submit any work, I would be out on my ear.

I met one of my friends that night in a local bar and told him my problem. He looked at me as if I was mad “Why don’t you just check out the internet and get someone to do the work for you?” He said. It had never occurred to me before, but it was actually a pretty good idea. As soon as I got home I started looking on the internet to see if I could find any Term Papers and it wasn’t long before I came across something that could work.

I managed to get in contact with the site and I ordered my Free Research Papers and I was thrilled that they came through really quickly.

I guess I’m lucky that my friend pointed me in the right direction and I was able to find someone who could help me with my studies. It was just a blip and after that I managed to get all of my work in. I’m now planning another holiday with my mates safe in the knowledge that this time there won’t be any work piled up when I get back – I finished my course and now all I have to do is look forward to University!

Mesh office chairs gaining in popularity

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Lately a range of mesh office chairs have been taking the office furniture world by storm. These beautiful seating products are fast replacing the traditional fabric back chairs in many offices across Europe and North America, particularly in countries where summer can be quite hot.

Their airy backs means that the user stays nice and cool and ventilation is maximised, making the worker more comfortable and ultimately more productive. One company offering a selection of these exciting new chairs is Inter County, who are based in the South East of England. Their Stealth Shadow II chairs are proving to be a massive hit combining all the attributes associated with mesh chairs with a very low starting price. A basic chair can be bought from just £199 excluding VAT.

Furthermore these chairs are also available in 5 funky colours. Most companies offer just the black, which is already getting extremely boring, but because Inter County have their own on-site seating products facility they are able to offer a whole range of colour options. And if you don’t find the colour you want you can call them and the chances are they will be able to offer it to you. In fact one rumour has suggested that they are able to offer as many as 300 different fabrics, which if true is simply astonishing.

While some people will still continue to use fabric and leather chairs there is no doubt that mesh chairs are starting to make a huge impact on the workplace and you can be sure you will be hearing a lot more about them over the next couple of years.

5 Essential References For Scientific Research Writing

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

When you are involved in scientific research writing then there are certain types of references that you should use. Obviously, not every reference will be suitable for use in scientific research so you need to be able to separate the reliable from the unreliable. These 5 essential references for research writing will help you make your research references top notch.

Websites

With the abundance of information available on the internet, it would be foolish to not tap into this easily accessible resource. Websites can be used to provide information that will help to make your research writing come alive. At the very least, it can provide sufficient information to make your writing feel more complete.

There is one catch. You need to make sure that your web site reference is a reliable source and that the information that it contains is current enough to be useful. Some information is always relevant while some has an expiration date and should be replaced by more recent sources.

Journals

Scientific journals are excellent references. Quality scientific journals are well known in the scientific community and they, too, can provide a wealth of information on an endless number of scientific topics. As with all your sources, you want your journal references to pertain to the topic at hand. Tangentially related journal references might be better replaced by sources that are directly related to your subject matter.

Books

In the age of the internet, books are often overlooked. They are, however, the original reference tool. Your scientific research can be immeasurably enriched by the right book references. The right books can lend credence and authority to your writing in a way that not all sources can. Never forget that books are the original reference and, in many cases, the best reference.

Conference Papers

Conference papers are another type of reference that can be used to help increase the perceived validity of your scientific research writings. As with all your sources, make sure these papers are relevant and reliable. Their effective inclusion will help to further support your research writing. It cannot be stressed enough that conference papers, like any other type of reference, should not be included haphazardly. Unrelated information will only serve to distract and detract from what it is that your scientific research paper is trying to say.

Your Own Research

While secondhand sources may be used to build a case, the usage of your own research observations can lend power to your writing. While you could decide to rely entirely on the research and observations of others, when you include your own you make a statement that you have made the effort to come to conclusions for yourself based on your own experiences and research.

These 5 essential references for scientific research writing are of the utmost importance. When you take advantage of these various types of references and use them in a well thought out way then you can support your research in a more concrete way. The more evidence that you can provide to support your research, the better it will be for those whom you want to reach with that research.
