Is it true that a major part of students graduated from 4 years college?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
have IQ greater than 115?
How can a student with IQ lower than 100 be graduated from 4 years college? My “working memory” is not so good. I fell in the class of World Civilization (World History). I would also fall in the class of World Humanity and English Composition. Who do know how to pass the courses with low IQ or low in memory? Thank you.
You responses would be appriciated.

native English speakers to evaluate my findings on Estuary English?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
I am Korina Melezhik, a post-graduate student at the English dept. of Tavrida state univ., Simferopol, Crimea, Ukraine, doing a research on the discourse of the Big Brother reality show (2006, 2007, 2008).
The idea is that a new TV reality show sociolect has originated during past 10-15 years and its position in English language continuum is somewhere between Standard English, Estuary English and Cockney. The Big Brother participants realistically represent the current demographic ratio of TV viewers in London, South East and Central England:

Consequently BB sociolect should represent peculiarities of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation of corresponding strata of the population.

My grammar and vocabulary material (see attachment) was selected from BB7, BB8, BB9 and verified, basing on the principle that:

1. All selected grammatical samples are marked as non-standard in grammars of English.

2. All selected words and word combinations are marked as slang in dictionaries.

Now I need to know how native speakers can evaluate my findings.

I wonder if it is possible for yahoo group members to read and mark examples according to the task set in the beginning of the attachment.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely

Korina Melezhik

vietnamese-english or english – vietnamese translation work?

Monday, September 21st, 2009
I’m a Vietnamese graduate student looking for some work-from-home income to pay for my expenses. I’m looking for some English-Vietnamese or Vietnamese-English translation work. I’ve looked at several websites and registered a profile, but no luck. What’s a better way for me to look for this kind of work? Does anyone know someone who needs this kind of translation? I’m very good at both languages.

Several questions for people who know about Film classes in college and when those students graduate?

Thursday, July 16th, 2009
1)What is the difference between film studies, film production, filmmaking, and just plain film? I’ve been looking through college guides, which have used those terms for different schools when describing their strongest programs. It’s pretty confusing.
2)How likely is it to become a successful director, or at least get a chance at directing a mainstream movie? And please, no ‘based on the crap coming out now, very likely’.
3)Do many students who go through film school/classes/studies get a job in that area? I’ve heard of English majors having a hard time getting any jobs, but I’ve never heard about the film area (excluding acting, but that’s not what I want to do)
4)Excluding the obvious ones(NYU, UCLA, etc) what school have great film programs?
I would like sources, if you would.

How much should a new high school graduate charge to tutor a sixth grade student (see details)?

Thursday, November 6th, 2008
I live in a small town. I’ve just graduated high school, and I’m going to teach French this summer to a sixth-grade student (whose native language is not English, perhaps making it slightly more challenging). What sounds like a reasonable hourly rate?
