Initially passed down verbally from generation to generation, at about the end of the 7th century written records begin. Verse form was a common method of writing, due to the rhythmic nature of spoken Arabic.
Modern Standard Arabic comprises twenty eight consonants. Vowels come in both long and short form, but there are only three in total in Arabic.
Muslims around the world consider Arabic to be a sacred language, as the Koran was revealed to their prophet via that language. Certainly that is one of the reasons why Arabic is now the most important Semitic language.
Learning the Arabic language can have many valuable benefits. The important thing is not to be put off by challenging pronunciations. But the benefits of a great perspective and wonderful insights into an early civilization and its incredible history will make you want to put the effort into mastering them, which is possible with some practice.
